Benahavís is known in part because some of the most exclusive living areas in the country are located in its municipal area. The Tower of La Leonera is a defensive construction of Arab origin that is part of a much more extensive and complex network of towers and walls that served to keep the area well protected. Called Castle of Montemayor, has several towers, walls and walled areas of which some parts are still preserved. La Leonera was a watchtower that served for this castle in an area with a peculiar relief that was strongly defended, with these constructions during the Muslim era of the Iberian Peninsula.
